Where to look
- Banks and credit unions where you already have an account (personal loans often start at 12 months, so ask about early payoff with no penalty)
- A personal loan repaid early: many have no prepayment penalty, so a 12-month loan paid off in 3 months can cost less than a true 90-day loan
- Licensed online installment lenders in your state; at $5,000, credit union PALs (max $2,000) won't cover the full amount
Before you sign
- Compare the APR, which includes fees, not just the payment.
- Confirm the lender is licensed with NMLS or your state regulator.
- Never pay a fee before you get the money; that's a common scam sign.
This guide is general information, not financial advice. Loan rules, rate caps and which products are allowed differ by state. Check a lender's license with your state regulator before you apply.
Frequently asked questions
What is the monthly payment on a $5,000 90-day loan?

Can I borrow $5,000 for just 90 days?
