How fees change the picture
A one-time fee on a short loan pushes the APR up fast. For example, a $50 fee on a $1,000 loan repaid over 3 months adds more than the interest at 28% APR. That's why the law requires lenders to show an APR that includes most finance charges. Compare APRs, not just rates.
This guide is general information, not financial advice. Loan rules, rate caps and which products are allowed differ by state. Check a lender's license with your state regulator before you apply.
